    Q&A

    1.       A bottle of cleaning/purge solution was included with the ink. When would I use it and how is it used?
Ans:   There is a syringe with a flexible tube included in the package.  This syringe is to be used to inject ink
directly into the print head ( the cone part that is inside the cartridge carriage )  Use no more than 1 ml at a
time.  The cleaning fluid can also be used to fill the second set of cartridges to make your own cleaning
cartridges.  Use 50/50 mix of ink and cleaning fluid.  Details on how to clean print head is posted at :
    HowToUnclogPrintHeads.html

    2.       The guidelines I found on your website regarding how to refill the cartridges suggest that the cartridge
should not be removed when refilling. How can I tell when the cartridge is full since I can’t see the ink level from
the side or from the top?
Ans:  Attach the blunt needle to the syringe to fill the cartridge very slowly from the refill port.  It takes about 10
ml to fill the cartridge each time unless the cartridge is allowed to go empty.  Inject ink slowly to avoid ink spill.
Have a tissue paper handy to wipe off excess.

    3.       How do the chips reset themselves or what must I do to reset them after the cartridges have been refilled?

Ans:  The 1400 chip should auto reset.  But it is recommended to refill promptly when the low ink warning is
observed.  After refilling the cartridge at this time, the press of the ink button will trigger the software ink level
reset.  This means each time the cartridge is refilled, the software ink level is brought back to full.  By doing
this, the cartridge will not run dry.  Dry ink will clog the print head.   Keeping ink in the cartridge will keep the
print head moist, reducing the chance of print head clog.  Caution:  It is very important to keep some ink in the
cartridge because if the cartridge run dry, it will take some work to get rid of all the air bubbles from the
    cartridge.

    4.       You have provided me two sets of full cartridges with my purchase. What is the best strategy for using
them? Is it better to rotate the use of the two sets, replacing an empty one with a full one, or should I hold a set
in reserve and just refill the cartridges in the printer as they become empty?
Ans:  If you have received two sets of full cartridges, refill the cartridge when the first one run low.  Or swap our
the whole set.  This will make sure the chip works together as a set ( Caution: if the chips have different
version numbers, they will not work.  Using different version chips together could render the chips useless.  If
you received the cartridges in a set, use the set together for the least trouble. )

    5.       About how many times can a cartridge be reused/refilled before it becomes unusable?
Ans:  These cartridges should last at least a year without the need for replacement.  Just avoid getting dust or
dirt in the cartridge, they should last up to two years.

    6.       Am I able to order individual bottles of replacement ink, or do I have to order a complete set of six
bottles? Where would I find pricing?
Ans.   Individual bottles will be available.  I will be updating my website to make it easier to fine the ink refill.  If
you have trouble finding what you need, just email me or send me a Skype message for assistance.

Check the cartridge to make sure there are no air bubbles at the bottom half of the cartridge.  Some air
bubbles on the top is fine.  This cartridge holds about 20 ml ink, 60% more than the original cartridge.

Identify the breather port and the refill port from the picture above.  The breather port should stay open before
printing.   ( Seal this port if the cartridge is removed for storage. )   The second port is the refill port and it
should only be open when refilling the cartridge.  Caution:  If this port is not sealed, ink will drain out of the
cartridge.  It will take hours for the ink to leak out,  seal this port after refilling the cartridge.  After installing the
cartridge, print the solid color purge pattern for print test.

    Cleaning
Run the cleaning cycles up to 2 times in a setting if you must clean the print head.  Print the purge pattern for
    nozzle check.

    Monitoring the ink level
The software ink monitor should not be depended on to determine how much ink is left in the cartridge.  But if  the cartridge is refilled each time when seeing the low ink warning,  the cartridge should be at least 30 - 50%
level.  Caution: It is important to fill the cartridge each time the ink monitor is showing the low ink warning
because running the cartridge dry will introduce air bubbles into the internal passages in the cartridge that
feeds ink into the print head.  The air bubbles must be purged before installing the cartridge again.  Fill the
cartridge as soon as the software ink warning observed will avoid running the cartridge dry.

    Summary:
Remove the breather plugs before printing.  The first print test should use the multi-color test pattern.
Follow by the single color purge pattern for print test, limit the cleaning cycle to 2 times between print tests.
Refill promptly when the low ink warning appears.  Do not run the cartridge dry.

    Chip reset:
The auto reset chip will reset the chip after the low ink warning appears.  This reset will only take place after a
print job is completed and the low ink warning is there.  The chip reset will be automatic if you ignore the low ink
warning.  This means if you do not refill the cartridge, the chip will return to full but the cartridge could be half
    empty.
After refilling the cartridge, plug the refill port, close the cartridge cover and press the ink button to return the
printer to service.  This is another way the chip will reset.  I call this manual reset because you have to press the
ink button to trigger the chip reset.  Keep in mind the chip will not reset unless the low ink warning is present.

    Chip resetter:
A chip resetter could be used to reset the chip anytime you want the chip reset to full.  This will allow the ink
level return to full before a large print job.  If you are printing large prints or panoramic, it is always good to have
the chip set to full before printing.
