Be careful when removing the cartridge cover and not to break the retainer. Before deciding to go with the CIS, I suggest using the refillable cartridge first. This gives you a chance to learn how the chip reset works with your printer.
The external ink tank should be elevated about 2 - 3 inches from the desk where the printer is placed. This will avoid ink flowing back from the cartridge to the external ink tank. The reverse flow will cause air to enter the print head if the printer is not being used for a couple of days. If you have to run cleaning cycles to start printing again after not printing for a couple of days, it is likely the problem is caused by not elevating the external tank.
The optimal elevation depends on how full the ink bottles are. Fill the bottles to the same level for the best performance. If the external tank is placed too high, ink will drip on the prints or even flush out the ink from the external tank. Keep the tank at 2 -3 inches above the desk and lower the bottle half an inch at a time until the dripping stops when printing. This is when the tank is at the best pressure balance.
We use an external tank that supply ink through the top of the bottle. You will have much less problems with the CIS with this design.
Know issue
: The cartridge is fitted with a remx;">has to be centered for the chip to make proper contact with the printer. If there is a problem for the printer to recognize the chip, check to make sure the chip is mounted properly. Never install a cartridge without a chip. Never mix these cartridges with Epson cartridges.
